Excursion - Robotanica Exhibition in Amsterdam

Robotanica 2018

On 2 June 2018 I went to Amsterdam to for Robotanica Exhibition. The main question of Robotanica was:

"Is it possible to significantly improve the living conditions of animals and plants by means of robotics?"

I really enjoyed the Robotanica exhibition as an art exhibition, however I can hardly see most of the concepts being possible to implement in the future. Big part of concepts were giving great art experience, but not really making sense from technological site.

Head in the clouds - concept description

The concept that I liked the most and probably the simplest one was called "head in the clouds".

Head in the clouds was created by artist Mickaël Martins Afonso. He is interior designer from Boredeaux, France. You can check his profile here. On the right you can see author's description of the project, however I will try to describe it in my own words.

Head in the clouds is concept created for cities and its citizens. Everyday we are overstimulated by sounds, pictures, videos, technology etc. from every side. In the public spaces it is hard to find any place for relief, getting fresh mind or just quiet spot for couple of seconds. Probably everyone, had this feeling in public spaces, which characterize with great need to isolate, while all you can find is loud Starbucks.

With Mikaël's concept we can literally have our "head in the cloud" and for a second feel like we are the only person in the room. Project aims to fight with phenomenon called sensory overload. Head in the clouds offers its visitor a room for reflection and in its simplest relief.

Other aspect of this concept I really enjoyed is how it looks. It is so simple, aesthetic and attracts people from outside. Blended in the city it is simply beautiful decoration. From a distance clouds look like they are flying which gives this abstract feeling.

It does not use any technology. In fact its goal is partly to get rest from technology...

Aspect of the concept I enjoyed probably the most is the fact that it does not use any technology. In fact its goal is partly to get rest from technology... As can be seen on the pictures clouds are made out of cotton wool, which is glued to cloud shape. Whole installation hangs on transparent rope so from a distance it looks like clouds are actually flying.

Although creators were present on the exhibition I did not manage to find Mikael. Probably because I was attending Robotanica at the end hours on Saturday.
